1. I have purchased your theme. Now what?

The best starting point is to go through the provided documentation.

It will guide your through the common tasks of theme installation and import of demo content.

You have 2 options for downloading your theme:

Documentation pdf is in the All files and documentation package. Please download it and the document should be in the root of the downloaded archive.

For more info and detailed instructions please refer to our Online Theme Documentation.

2. Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a "Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly.

You have 2 options for downloading your theme:

Please use Installable WordPress file only archive in the process of Theme installation:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Browse to Appearance > Themes.
  3. Click on ‘Add New’.
  4. Click ‘Upload Theme’.
  5. Browse and select the theme zip file to upload, then click 'Install Now' button.

For more info and detailed instructions please refer to our Online Theme Documentation.

3. Installing Demo Content

First, delete all sample content (posts and pages) which is automatically created when WordPress is installed.

Next, go to ‘Tools > Import > WordPress’ and install WordPress Importer plugin if it is not already installed.

When it is installed, choose demo.xml file from demo_data folder and click ‘Upload file and import’. On the following screen make sure that ‘Download and import file attachments’ is checked. Click ‘Submit’ button and wait until import is finished.

Go to ‘Appearance > Menus’ and select ‘Primary Menu’ form select box, click ‘Select’ and check ‘Primary Menu’ under ‘Theme locations’. Click ‘Save Menu’. Select ‘Footer Menu’ form select box, click ‘Select’ and check ‘Footer Menu’ under ‘Theme locations’. Click ‘Save Menu’. Go to ‘Appearance > Customize > General Settings > Retina Logo > Media Library’ and pick your logo. Click ‘Save & Publish’.

4. I want to use a child theme. How can I do that?

If you want to use Genie Child Theme, please follow these steps:

1. First of all, make sure that parent theme folder is named: genie. Otherwise rename the folder.

2. You should be able to find the folder genie-child in the package you have downloaded from ThemeForest.

3. Please copy this folder to /wp-content/themes folder on your server.

4. Go to Appearance > Themes in your wp-admin console and activate child theme. Please have in mind that all required plugins need to be activated.

5. How to increase the size of the logo?

With the default header the maximum recommended logo height is 60px. The width doesn’t really matter – the logo will push menu to the right no matter how wide it is.

If you need more than 60px insert the following css statements in Customize > General Settings Custom CSS field:

.logo a img {
    height: 80px;
    padding-top: 15px;
}
.mainNav {
 padding-top: 20px;
}

Please adjust the numbers according to your needs. The first number (80px) represents the height of the logo, the second (15px) and the third (20px) represent the top margin between the viewport's top and the content.

6. How to set up grid or tiles layout?

The process of setting up grid or tiles layout is as follows:

1. Create a static page.

2. At the bottom of page edit form choose desired Page Type (Tile Grid, Grid or Wide Grid). You do not need any content.

3. Publish a Page.

4. In Settings > Reading choose A static page and select the newly created page.

The home page of your blog should display the desired layout type.

7. How to change the Excerpt text?

All Blog Posts, but even Pages can have Excerpt text.

In order to change the ’Excerpt text’ please take a look at the bottom of edit post page. Since this field is not visible by default, just click Screen options button at top right corner of the form and check Excerpt checkbox.

This will make excerpt field visible. You will be able to edit Excerpt text.

For more info and detailed instructions please refer to our Online Theme Documentation.

8. How to update installed theme? Will it change data?

First of all, please make sure to download newest theme version from ThemeForest Download section.

Then, just replace the old theme files with new ones on your server via FTP (provided you haven’t made any changes in the source code. If you did, please reapply them to the new version of the theme or they will be lost).

Keep your eyes on potential required plugin update messages at wp-admin dashboard once you replace the files. You should update all required plugins if the updated theme suggests so.

All settings in Customize panel and your content will be preserved.

Note: Once new theme version is online, user who purchased the theme, should get email note from the Envato (ThemeForest).

For more info and detailed instructions please refer to our Online Theme Documentation.

1. Go to Twitter Apps, sign in and create New App.

2. Complete the form, here’s a break down of what each field is:

Please check 'I agree'. You are now presented with a Consumer key – copy and paste this somewhere as we need that for the next step.

3. Click on 'manage keys and access token'. Then go to ’Create my access token’  and you will get Consumer Secret, Access Token and Access Token Secret.

6. Copy Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, Access Token and Access Token Secret and enter them to respective fields of Twitter widget.

For more info and detailed instructions please refer to our Online Theme Documentation.

10. How to set up your Instagram widget?

In order to set up your Instagram widget you need following data:

Client Id

Please follow this procedure to create your Client Id and Access Token:

1. Go to the link: Authentication and login with your Instagram account

2. Click on Manage Clients in the upper right corner

3. Click on Register a New Client.

4. Complete the form, here’s a break down of what each field is:

You are now presented with a Client ID and the Redirect URL – copy and paste these somewhere (or leave the browser window open) as we need them for the next step.

5. Click on Edit Client button, click on Security Tab and uncheck Disable implicit OAuth. Click on Update button.

Access Token

Use the url below and replace the bits in UPPERCASE with the information you noted earlier on (Client ID and Redirect URL): https://instagram.com/oauth/authorize/?client_id=YOURCLIENTIDHERE&redirect_uri=HTTP://YOURREDIRECTURLHERE.COM&response_type=token&scope=public_content

Paste the updated URL in to your favorite browser and you will be taken to a page on Instagram that says something like, “Hello [Your Name], [Application Name] is requesting to do the following” followed by a list of permissions – click Authorize to enable and retrieve your token.

You should now have been redirect to the URL you set as your Redirect URL (probably your blog).  At the end of the URL Instagram has directed you to is your access token as a very long series of letters and numbers.  It will almost certainly not all be visible so you’ll need to work a little to get it.  We recommend:

Clicking in the address bar of your browser
Hit CTRL + A on the keyboard to ‘Select All’
Hit CTRL + C on the keyboard to ‘Copy‘
Open a text editor such as Notepad and paste the URL there, you should now be presented with something like this: http://www.bold-themes.com/#access_token=856946666.7338417.ffefasgtasg805784be6ab4f24965e79

Everything after the equals sign (=) is your access token so in our case this would be: 856946666.7338417.ffefasgtasg805784be6ab4f24965e79.

Please enter Client Id and Access token to respective fields of Instagram widget.
